Woodland Creation & Tree Planting
There’s a condition within the granting of a Forestry Commission’s Felling Licence, in that there has to be suitable re-planting in order to ensure the tree population remains sustainable; plus, there’s lots of funded projects around to promote landowners and Local Authorities to plant trees. Beyond that, we hold the belief that tree, woodland or hedge planting are inherently positive steps for environments, people and the planet.
Woodland Creation: whether you are applying for a grant under the Forestry Commission’s England Woodland Creation Offer, the North York Moors National Park’s Woodland Creation Grant Scheme we can work with you to assess the space, plan the woodland, apply for funding, plant trees, create hedge and install fencing, as well as following care and maintenance to ensure the investment in woodland creation is successful.

Amenity Tree Planting: we are able work with you to plant trees, whether these are within the garden or an amenity tree in a public place as part of a Local Authority Treescape Fund or Urban Tree Challenge Fund project.
Larger trees which are being planted are likely to need some additional support, which could be a cane, stake or two/three posts and strapping. They are likely to require ongoing watering and mulching to give them the best chance of successful transplanting; as well as possible protection from pests, predators or local traffic. All of this we can advise on, providing a total package of planting, protection and aftercare.
Hedge Planting: hedgerows are an oft overlooked feature of our rural landscape, featuring in our culture of territorial marking by landowners- yet overall they are a rich habitat for wildlife across the country.
Careful planting of hedges is needed, as well as support and protection to ensure they are successful. Whether you are a landowner wishing to instal or reinstate hedging on their land, or a school/community group using the Woodland Trust’s Free Trees for Schools and Communities scheme, we can work with you to ensure your plans lead to a healthy hedge for years to come. Please note, the Woodland Trust has delivery windows of March and November each year, so we can schedule works around these.

Young Tree Aftercare: the guidance is clear, that for recently planted trees to survive and thrive, they need to be cared for! This includes watering (with up to 50 litres of water per week, per tree being recommended during the Summer months [Arboricultural Association, 2023]), as well as formative pruning to ensure they grow healthily and avoid accidental damage; plus weeding and checking of the supporting stakes. If you are looking for aftercare for recently planted trees, then we can provide a calendar of care that will give the trees the best chance.
